Medieval Architecture
The medieval term architecture is used to represent the various forms of architecture popular in Europe. Castles and Town Walls offer the most notable remaining non-religious examples of medieval architecture. Religion has always had a great influence on architectural styles, such as defense and accident natural features.
Medieval castle towers were usually made of stone or, sometimes (but rarely) of wood. Often, towards the back of the time included battlements and arrow slits. The materials used in the construction of castles changed throughout history. The wood is used for most castles until 1066. They were cheap and quick to build. The reason wood fell into disuse as a material that is highly flammable. Stone soon became more popular.
The next step is to recognize and examine the building materials. Most medieval churches were built of limestone, with wood serving support for flying buttresses. The wood was not a common building material in the past. You will find magnificent stained glass windows. The windows are representative medieval architecture. You'll find extravagant use of color and the size of medieval churches.
In the 1100s, people built Romanesque churches in Germany, as the abbey church in Regensburg. Around 1200 AD, people changed from the old Romanesque style to a new Gothic style: the first in Italy with the churches of Florence and Pisa, and later in France, the cathedrals of Laon, Paris, Chartres, Rouen, Reims, Amiens, and finally in England Abbey Westminster, Germany Munster, Regensburg, Bremen, Freiburg and Cologne, and in Italy with Milan.
Compare the difference between religious and secular medieval architecture. The emphasis on defense, as opposed to symbolism. Some of the notable features include a moat (which varies between wet and dry to keep the enemy at bay) exterior walls range (between 20 and 40 feet wide) to the guards to monitor and crenellated edges of the archers to shoot from, which also provided protection.
Well, Here are some key features that define the medieval architecture, classic and elegant!
