Dalmatian – The facts every owner of this dog breed should know
Easily recognizable as the unofficial mascot of firehouses, the Dalmatian is a medium-sized breed with the familiar white coat with black spots. Dalmatians are not born with a spotted coat, but are born completely white and the spots are further later. Experts disagree on the origin of the Dalmatian, but have always been associated with horses.
Bred for the purpose of running alongside horse drawn carriage by horses, Dalmatians were used later to clear roads for horse-drawn fire engines to travel and to help calm the horses, while the fire. Although today there firehouses Dalmatians need more time to this end, the love remains. Dalmatian males grow at an average height of 22 to 24 inches and females an average height of 20 to 22 inches. They reach an average weight of 55 pounds and live approximately 10 to 12 years.
Most Dalmatians have blue eyes, although some have a blue-brown combination. The spots on a Dalmatian may be black, brown, lime, dark blue, three colors, brindle or saber. Although little need to bathe, Dalmatians shed profusely, especially during their twice yearly shedding season, and require daily brushing to keep up with it.
Since Dalmatians were originally bred to be a working dog, have abundant strength and energy. They do not adapt to live in an apartment for that reason, as they require frequent periods of exercise to be happy (but not cold Dalmatians can not tolerate it for long periods). In addition, they enjoy human company and will become unhappy if left alone for long periods. Your enjoyment of human company that a pet Dalmatians excellent family. Its medium size makes them able to withstand rough play, such as children. Dalmatians can also be trained to be guard dogs. His desire to be with humans and their intelligence also makes it easier to train some breeds Dalmatians. Dalmatians have some unique medical issues. They have an unusual metabolism, uric acid, high levels of uric acid excretion, which makes them more likely to form kidney stones and bladder. Because of this, they should not have too much of protein in your diet. Some Dalmatians are also prone to skin allergies. Approximately 10 to 12 percent of all Dalmatians are born deaf. Tests at 6 weeks of age to confirm the diagnosis. Deaf Dalmatians can be difficult to climb, becoming irascible and irritable, although some people have been successful teaching sign language Dalmatians and use that to train your Dalmatian.
